genmai chagayu

This green lentil and brown rice porridge has been my morning gruel for a few weeks now.  I originally found this at Just Hungry.  I adapted the recipe for use in my Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker.  This makes enough for two people or two breakfasts for one.

Rice cooker with porridge cycle
1/2 rice cooker cup short grain brown rice
2 tablespoons French green lentils (also called puy lentils)
1 tea-bag organic green tea (or genmai green tea)
Filtered water
1/2 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon Braggs or soy sauce
Roasted white sesame seeds to garnish

Rinse rice in fine sieve, then  add to rice cooker.   Rinse green lentils, then add to rice cooker. Toss in green tea bag.

Add filtered water to just a little above the 0.5 porridge line marked on the inside of rice cooker.  Set the cooker to porridge cycle. Press the start/cook button.  Rice cooker will sound when cooking process is completed.

Remove teabag from rice cooker.  Add soy sauce or Braggs to taste.  To serve, garnish with roasted sesame seeds.

Should you want a thinner porridge, consider adding a cup of brewed green tea to the porridge.
